Royals Match Report

Away game versus “The Royals” Tunbridge Wells District  IBC
4 July 2024
This was the second game of a pair of summer friendly matches where we compete to win a trophy. The Rose Bowl was kindly donated in 2010 by Mr & Mrs Goodwin. Currently Egerton Park have had the higher number of victories. Our home leg was hotly contested but left us with a deficit of 17 to overcome. At tea this was a big challenge with an overall score of 28:52. We began to “get” their green which was pleasingly silent due to a concrete floor. Even bowls “shot from the hip” were eerily silent.
However the Royals were on the charge winning 112:78 & retaining the Rose Bowl. It was a most enjoyable game with plenty of good banter over the drinks & raffle. There were congratulations for Egerton players as well. On 2 of the 6 rinks we won. The “man of the match” for Egerton was Roger Sinclair who was skip on our top rink of Marie Burton, Ken Brook & himself. This hero had been a last minute call up only this morning. Terry summoned him away from his breakfast of egg, bacon & sausage at Wetherspoons. Possibly the take home message is that we should all have a good feed before an away game!
